As you know, Mike and I are animal lovers, so we are always looking for new places to interact with animals that we wouldn’t usually have the chance to see outside of a zoo! We had heard of Fellow Earthlings Wildlife Center, which is outside of Palm Springs, and knew we needed to go. For Mike’s 30th birthday, he decided on a weekend in La Quinta, which is about 45 minutes from Fellow Earthlings…so we scheduled our visit with the meerkats!
We had “adopted” a meerkat for a $100 donation, and this allowed us to get a two-hour visit with three of the most adorable meerkats! We were also lucky enough to meet the center’s director, Pam Bennett-Wallberg, who was honestly one of the most delightful people I’ve ever met. She is a meerkat expert, and was a consultant for the character Timon on The Lion King and was the (human) face for the Animal Planet series Meerkat Manor. Pam was so kind and we loved hearing her stories about Africa!
We got to feed and interact with the meerkats Lozi, Kulu, and Kavango. They enjoyed digging for mealworms from our gloved hands and playing around with their toys. We loved watching them – they are characters! This is definitely a highly recommended outing!!
